ACHERON: By Sherrilyn Kenyon
Synopsis:
Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. However, his human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, Acheron became the sole defender of mankind.
Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he'll do anything to keep concealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.
Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.
War has never been more deadly... or more fun.
Review:
Acheron, the fearless leader and wrangler of the all the Dark Hunters has been wrapped in mystery.....that is until now. This book took me a long time to read, however the time it took was worth every second. The beginning of the book is all done in the past, giving us Acheron's beginning. My heart broke at the things that happened to him. I understand him a great deal more knowing his tormented past. Ms. Kenyon really knows how to stick the knife in and twist it while the reader is already crying. I'm not going to reveal any of it because it's such an incredible journey for both Acheron and his Sister Ryssa.
The last third of the book is done in modern day, when Acheron meets, humiliates, then falls in love with a woman exploring the world looking for Atlantis. Soteria doesn't know what she got into when she falls for the leather wearing, nose ringed, goth guy who humiliates her completely at her talk about finding relics from the lost city of Atlantis. (Yes she does get even but I'm not telling you how.) This mysterious man seems to have a heart of gold and a penchant for helping others, so how could he be such an ahole? You'll see.... *wink*
All in all I absolutely loved Acheron (not to mention this boy kicks ass and takes names.....sometimes)
and it's made me want to read a few others of the book to find out what happened between Nick Gautier and Acheron who are two of my favorite characters. Ms. Kenyon's world building is impeccable and the creatures she creates are interesting and innovative. I truly love this series and this author. This is a definite must read!
